Inspiration can be found anywhere, but the fact that there are infinite possibilities can also be overwhelming when trying to style and decorate a space. We want to remind you to keep it simple, and always go with what speaks to you!
Inspiration can start with anything..a fabric or pillow, a piece of art, an item that you love, or simply connecting to a finished space (whether it be somewhere you’ve actually been or have only seen in pictures or on TV). Exploring Instagram and Pinterest, or flipping through the pages of an interior design magazine or book can also help you decide on a style.
Using nature and the colors in nature to guide design is also a great place to start. There’s such a variety and array of colors and textures in nature, and adding actual elements when styling a space can really bring a space to life. Fresh flowers from the garden are always beautiful, but don’t be afraid to put pretty tree branch into a vase! If you’re a fellow New England-er, you may even have a tree where the branches have a totally different feel each season (a bright flower in spring, a cool green tone leaf in summer, a warm red in fall, or a neutral bare branch in winter). Taking a walk in your neighborhood or while exploring somewhere new can lend to finding something that inspires you-think: plants, rocks, a bird, shells, the sea or the skies. Or just use your imagination-ask yourself, what is your favorite or most peaceful place to go? Now use that to draw inspiration!
Playing around with an inspiration or mood board can be helpful as well. Here you can layer inspiration photos and products-make it collage style or actually place items where they would go in the room you’re decorating. This is even something we can help with and love to do! We take a mood or design board a step further and will source items for you and send you links to purchase them.
Whatever route you take, remember to have fun and be true to what speaks to you and your style!
