The Minimalist Mindset

While full on minimalism may not be for everyone, we love the idea of adopting a minimalist mindset when it comes to editing, organizing, and purchasing. The goal here is to be minimal-ish! Here are some tips to help create a minimalist inspired perspective:
  • Just because you like or even love something, doesn’t mean you need to have it or keep it. You can appreciate art at a museum, but you don’t expect to go home with it!
  • Just because something was once useful or could possibly be one day, doesn’t mean you need it! Remind yourself that most things can be purchased pretty easily and quickly.
  • If you haven’t used something in years or forgot you owned it, you most likely won’t miss it. Trust us on this!
  • It’s all about balance! Say you need a bed and you love everything at a showroom, but you can only choose one.  Apply this idea to everything in your home. Set realistic limits to how much you really need of any one thing. Gather all like items together to decide what stays and what goes. It’s more powerful to see things in one place so you can compare and rank. Challenge yourself to imagine you’re in a store, and keep only what you would buy right now for full price.
You don’t have to become a minimalist overnight (or ever!) but giving these tips a try could help you down the path to a more simplified home. With all the uncertainty in the world, one thing is certain – less clutter in your home will lead to less stress in your life. With your new-found minimalist mindset you will breathe easier as things become naturally  simplified.
